Scicli and surrounding

Scicli stands in the centre of three valleys "crowned" by three hills. Scicli is part of UNESCO World Heritage list thanks to its churches,18th century palaces and historical city centre. Scicli has also been the location of fictions and films, as recently the "Commissario Montalbano".

Among the most representative late-baroque churches, we have the Cathedral devoted to the patron saint of Scicli "San Guglielmo" located in "Piazza Italia", the main square of the town. Then the church of "San Giovanni" standing in "Via Francesco Mormino Penna” . The church of "San Bartolomeo", located in the homonymous quarry. Three other important churches are the church of Carmine”,  “Consolazione” and sanctuary of “Santa Maria La Nova”. These last together with the wild and suggestive surrounding hills make up the atmosphere you breath at Ca’Nova holiday house.

Among the 18th century palaces we should mention “Palazzo Spadaro”, seat of permanent and temporary art exhibitions; “Palazzo Fava”, unique for its elaborated and surprising corbels. Last but not least, “Palazzo Beneventano”, the most representative late-baroque monument in "Val di Noto". It is characterised by grotesque masks and sculptures, reminding the Arabs arrived in Scicli at the end of the 11th century.

Scicli is not only history and culture but also sea and 18 kilometres of sandy and rocky coasts. Here you can sunbathe from March till late October and enjoy warm temperature almost all year round.

Scicli is also famous for some folk traditions and feast days.. In March, there is the celebration of "San Giuseppe". It consists a horses parade. What is special is that the horses are richly decorated with flowers and bells while their riders are dressed in traditional local costumes. The Easter Sunday is not to be missed. It consists of an impressive procession of the statue of the Resurrected Christ, called "U GIOIA," that passes exactly in front  Ca' Nova holiday house. Then in May, there is "La Madonna delle Milizie" a sacred performance that recalls the historical battle between Arabs and Christians that took place in 1091 on the coast of Scicli.
